How does a design consultancy help communicate your brand story?

Every brand has its own essence, its own story. And a good design consultancy helps you bring out just that. Branding is not just about good product designs. But also why those product designs are yours and what do they speak about your brand. How they communicate your brand story to your customers.

And for this very reason, a design consultancy is a better option than an in-house design department or a freelance designer. As they not only come up with great product designs but they also, bring out the fallacies in your current designs and create stories from the new designs that will speak volumes about your brand, without saying a word.

So, how does a design consultancy help communicate your brand story?

They ‘get-to-know’ the customers and the competitive strengths of your product. And hence come up with just the right strategies and product designs that can help you carve out your niche in the marketplace.

From digging out the issues of your current product designs to making a great product design to assessing their effectiveness. There is a lot they do.

#1: Get-to-know the team and the product:

The first step here is to communicate with your team and getting to know the product. They do so to uncover the problems hidden underneath. They try to understand the behavior of your audience and how they perceive your product. This gives them all the oil for ignition.

#2. Do user-profiling:

In this step, they try to create situations in which a consumer will interact with the brand. They try to understand how different consumers will react to the brand. This helps them to understand the fallacies of the product.

#3. Brainstorming solutions:

Once you know the problem, it’s time for solutions. They have to come up with the right product designs and color schemes that will strike and connect with your target customer. Fitting prototypes are designed in this step.

#4. Choosing which road to travel:

You are the ultimate authority that will choose the final design for your brand. But they have the experience to have worked with so many other brands and know what works. So, they can guide you with which road to travel.

#5. Implementation and assessing effectiveness:

Now, it’s time to implement the designs. And even that requires experience. Also, once implemented, the real results are out. They help you assess the response.

#6. Lays an iterative decision process:

Idealism is just a theory. And everything needs change after some time. So, they set up a framework or a process to make iterative decisions.

This 6-fold method helps bring out your brand story and makes it stand out from everybody else. Good design personifies your brand and attaches its own character to it. It generates feelings for your brand and creates your brand’s following.

The Theory is a leading brand strategy design consultancy. We will be glad to add to your brand story through our designs.

What is Brand Strategy And Why Do You Need To Have One?

Branding is not just a name, logo, and color palette. It is like storytelling. In storytelling, you weave various elements into one and create an effect. You try to connect and engage with your audience. Similarly, in branding, you research and analyze many elements of the brand and weave them together to create an effect. Bring about change and connect with your audience. Brand Strategy is the strategy or say the technique of executing this art called branding.

At The Theory, we break this process into 4 parts: Positioning, profiling, defining brand attributes, and lastly segmentation. What we mean is, the first step in making any brand strategy is to analyze the target customers. Their pain points and frustrations and also, how the brand must fit into these gaps. And how it should be perceived by them. Then starts the work of mapping various user profiles to why they would interact with the brand. Studying that, we create brand attributes. And hence here is your brand strategy.

So, the big question. Why do you need a brand strategy? And a killing one at that. Well, answering that, Andrew Robertson, the CEO of BBDO, mentioned in an event, that, “80% of the return is a function of the creative and the content”. Yes, and not just the popular belief of being at the right place at the right time. That is, but only 20%. So, the 80% of it is essentially branding. That is letting out your message.

This message helps you stand out. Makes you more recognizable to your customers. Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, emphasizes that the decisions to buy anything are made in the blink of an eye. They are not long illustrative thoughts. Thus, the images and message, essentially the ‘feeling’ of any brand makes anybody to opt or not for that brand.

Thus, a well thought out branding strategy will form a clear idea of your brand in the minds of your customers. Why you are there and why your customers need you. It will set you apart from your competitors. Also, a good cohesive branding strategy will help you be more consistent with your message and get you, loyal customers.

Another reason why you need a great branding strategy is that a crystal clear idea of your strategy will help resonate the actions of your workforce. As a company, you need to make many decisions to give good results. And a clear strategy will help you do it more easily. Thus, a great branding strategy is the requirement of all. An evolving business or a start-up. For small businesses or start-ups, branding costs may look like an overhead. But, it is our experience that branding doesn’t increase costs. It reduces costs. It will pay you in the long run.

Rebranding: How Brands are Changing their Strategies due to Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has wrecked havoc with the global economy, forcing many companies to reassess their brand strategies and to pivot in order to answer to the needs of their customers in these trying times.

There has been much debate around brands that are repositioning their strategies around the pandemic, and whether or not this is ethical. While some folks believe that companies should not be “taking advantage” of the pandemic, others feel that if a brand can add value and help their customers, they should continue to reposition their message and help us to adapt to this new normal.

Never before has there been so much need for face masks and you only need to browse sites such as Amazon, Etsy and eBay and you will find countless small businesses and one-man shows now selling face masks. Many of these vendors previously sold other kinds of products and have now adapted themselves into selling sought-after items, such as face masks. In doing so, these companies have been able to avoid laying people off for at least a few months.

Other brands have used their large customer base to help their respective governments to send out the right message about the pandemic and to adopt social distancing measures. For example, Nike has had a campaign that has encouraged their customers to “play inside”.

Another large corporation that has jumped on board in an attempt to help the UN and the world’s governments is Facebook. Experts working on their Messenger platform have teamed up with developers to ensure that important information around the Coronavirus is shared and they also have a function that helps to answer common questions. This has all been done free of charge, which shows that if large organizations work hand-in-hand with government organizations, they can make a positive difference.
